WWMT:
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – We could be one step closer to a major missile defense system in West Michigan.
A report on the potential environmental effects is set to be released Tuesday.
In order to bring this multi-million dollar project to West Michigan we have to make sure it won’t have a negative effect on our environment.
Fort Custer is one of three locations the missile defense agency is looking at for the project.
If selected, the base would build an intercontinental ballistic missile defense site to protect the eastern United States.
The government is looking into a number of factors as they decide where to build the interceptor site.
One of those is the impact to the environment.
Tuesday a draft study will be released, giving the public a chance to see what it would mean for our area.
