With Highest Honors

March 09, 2006

Dear Members and Friends,

The United States Department of Defense’s Missile Defense Agency, in cooperation with the Japan Defense Agency and the U.S. Navy, yesterday successfully completed a cooperative missile defense test. This missile defense test demonstrated the performance of an sea based missile defensive missile (SM-3) that has been modified with a Japan-designed advanced nosecone and the Aegis BMD Weapon System.

We at MDAA strongly support the Japanese and United States missile defense cooperation and partnership. The benefits from this international partnership provides a more robust and secure protection to both of our populations and economic structures.

To encourage the Japanese and American partnership MDAA presented a $1,000 scholarship and internship to the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Honolulu. This scholarship will benefit an American student of Japanese descent from Hawaii or attending college in Hawaii for the 2006-2007 school year. “I am very honored to accept this gift on behalf of the Japanese-American community,? said Gregg Mueller, Immediate Past Chairman of the Board of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Honolulu. “It is wonderful to see organizations honor the strong partnership between Japan and America and was most interesting to learn more about how the partnership is strengthening both nations’ security.?
