The Royal Thai Air Force has decided to purchase the Barak MX air defense system from Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI).

The contract is valued at about 3.44 billion baht, or roughly $107 million, for a single battery as part of a project to protect Air Force bases. Defence Blog, which also reported on the deal, noted that the Royal Thai Army and Navy are also considering acquiring Barak systems.

The Barak MX system can intercept threats such as aircraft, drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles at ranges of up to 150 kilometers. Israel’s naval and land-based Barak systems have shot down dozens of drones from Yemen, Iran and Lebanon.
