Poland
Background
Poland itself does not have any missile defense capabilities
but the country was chosen by the Bush Administration to host 10 Ground-Based Interceptors
as part of the European component of the American Ground-Based Midcourse
Defense (GMD). In return for cooperation and support on missile defense, Poland
was to be given Patriot Advanced Capability 3 (PAC-3)
Patriot surface-to-air missile system.
Current Development
The new Administration of President Obama is conducting a
revision of the plans to build the Third Site. The plan is likely to be
abandoned because associated costs are too high. There is also the significant
problem of relatively low public support in recipient countries.
