Top US official in Ankara to present Washington’s Patriot offer

U.S. Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Tina Kaidanow, who heads the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs at the U.S. State Department, arrived in Ankara yesterday to present Washington’s offer on the purchase of Patriot missile systems.

The senior U.S. official has reportedly landed in the Turkish capital with her hands full as the U.S. administration will seek to persuade Turkey to buy the U.S.-made Patriot missile defense systems. Washington’s attempts have intensified especially after the Turkish government finalized the purchase of Russian-made S-400 missile defense systems.

According to reports in Turkish media, the U.S. will present “a very attractive offer” to Turkey. The U.S. official will be in Ankara until April 3. She is expected to hold meetings with Turkish officials from the Defense Ministry, Undersecretariat for Defense Industry and Foreign Ministry.
