The manufacturer of the Patriot missile system, Raytheon has won a contract valued at as much as $9 million for support for air defense missile system of the Republic of China Armed Forces, commonly known as the Taiwanese Armed Forces.
According to a statement released by the U.S. Department of Defense, Raytheon Southeast Asia Systems Co., was awarded a $9 million firm-fixed-price Foreign Military Sales contract for support for Taiwan’s Patriot mobile missile defense interceptor.
Work will be performed in Taipei, Taiwan, with an estimated completion date of April 3, 2024.
The Patriot missile system is a ground-based air defense missile system designed to detect, track and engage unmanned aerial vehicles, cruise missiles, and short-range and tactical ballistic missiles.
Since January of 2015, Patriot has intercepted more than 100 ballistic missiles in combat operations around the world; more than 90 of those intercepts involved the low-cost Raytheon-made Guidance Enhanced Missile family of surface-to-air missiles.
Raytheon has built more than 220 Patriot fire units and delivered them to customers in 16 nations. Many of those countries have chosen to take advantage of Patriot’s flexible architecture and upgrade their systems.
