New planes, missiles still possible on horizon for Battle Creek installations

Maybe aircraft will return and perhaps missiles will be placed at Battle Creek area military installations, two commanders said Thursday.

Base commanders of both the Army’s Fort Custer National Guard Training Center and Battle Creek Air National Guard said both are possible as they outlined the future during the first Joint Base Partnership Council.

Lt. Colonel Steve Wilson, commander of Fort Custer Training Center said he is awaiting further announcements about the future of a proposed missile defense program which, if approved in Washington, might come to his base.

Battle Creek is one of three sites in the United States which could be picked for a missile system. But the proposal was made several years ago and Wilson said it’s not clear when any announcement will be made.
