North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in meet at the Military Demarcation Line at the DMZ on April 27, 2018.

Today, a historic day long summit between North Korea’s Kim Jong-un and South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in was achieved and the two leaders signed and announced the Panmunjom Declaration for Peace, Prosperity, and Unification on the Korean Peninsula. In the declaration, the two agreed to alleviate military tension on the peninsula, cooperate to end the armistice and establish a permanent peace on the peninsula, and to realizing a nuclear-free Korean peninsula through complete denuclearization.

The 65 year road to peace on the Korean peninsula may seem a bridge to far, for so long, for so many and today we see the structure of a bridge of peace being finally built. A bridge foundation forged by President Moon of South Korea to enable the crossing of the President of the United States, Donald Trump to meet with the Supreme Leader Kin Jong-un to end the Korean War, denuclearize the Korean peninsula, and deescalate military tensions and presence on the peninsula.

Missile Defense has played a tremendous role of stabilizing and negating the nuclear ballistic missile threat that North Korea has driven and achieved for their security foundation to build a bridge of peace that they could come to terms from strength with the United States of America. Missile Defense will continue to play a tremendous role of security to the region and the United States during the building and after competition of this bridge of peace over troubled waters and guarantees protection should this bridge fall.

Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
